Mexico will hold its midterm elections on Sunday, June 6, 2027, renewing all 500 federal deputies, 17 governorships and more than 19,000 local posts across the 32 states, according to the [National Electoral Institute](https://www.ine.mx/voto-y-elecciones/elecciones-2027/) (INE). It will be the first major test at the polls for Claudia Sheinbaum's government, and October 2026 polls show Morena with a wide lead over a divided opposition.

The 2026-2027 Federal Electoral Process formally began on September 10, 2026. This page brings together the date, what is being elected, the official calendar, the current makeup of Congress and the polls, and it is updated at the same address as the process moves forward.

Sources: El Financiero, a phone survey of 800 adults conducted in September, and El Universal. The figures are not directly comparable because the methods differ: El Financiero reports raw preference, with 31% not choosing a party, and Buendía & Márquez notes that the gaps between PAN, PRI and MC are too small to name a clear second place. In both, Morena alone exceeds the three opposition parties combined. "n/a": not reported in the source.

Morena and its allies PVEM and PT hold 364 of 500 seats, more than the 334 needed for the two-thirds majority required to amend the Constitution. Keeping that majority is what is at stake in 2027. The judicial election and electoral reform

The judicial election will no longer coincide with the 2027 vote. In May 2026, Congress approved a constitutional reform moving the second election of judges from June 11, 2027, to June 4, 2028; the Senate passed it 86 to 41 and sent it to the state legislatures (La Razón). INE's 2027 page does not include judicial posts.

The president's electoral reform, which sought to eliminate the 32 proportional-representation senators, change how the 200 proportional deputies are chosen and cut party funding by 25% (Expansión), failed: in March 2026 it received 259 votes in favor and 234 against in the Chamber, well short of the 334 needed, because the PT and PVEM voted against it (AP via KEYT; Por Esto). As a result, 2027 will be held under the current rules.
