Argentina's president, Javier Milei, earns a gross salary of 4,066,018 pesos a month, frozen since he took office in December 2023. That was reported by BAE Negocios on August 13, 2026, when Milei himself highlighted that he is the lowest-paid president in the world. At the October 15, 2026 exchange rate, it is worth about US$ 2,685.

Both salaries have been unchanged since December 2023. Between January 2024 and September 2026 prices rose more than 250%, according to INDEC, so in real terms the presidential salary has lost more than two-thirds of its purchasing power. Price trends are in inflation in Argentina year by year.

What other presidents earn

BAE Negocios published this comparison with the monthly salaries of other heads of state, in dollars:

The amounts for other countries are approximate and depend on exchange rates. In Chile, the presidential salary is about 11 million Chilean pesos gross, as we detail in how much the president of Chile earns.

Why the salary has not risen

  • Political decision: Milei kept his salary frozen as part of his fiscal austerity message.
  • The president's salary is a ceiling: in public administration, several positions are set with reference to the presidential salary.
  • There were proposals for a rise: in late 2025 a pay-rise decree for the executive was reported, but in August 2026 the president said he had not raised his salary.
  • Year-end bonus: like any employee, the president receives half a bonus in June and another in December.
