A teacher in Peru's Public Teaching Career earns between S/ 3,500.70 a month in 2026, on the first scale with a 30-hour workload, and S/ 9,801.96, on the eighth scale with 40 hours, according to the Education Ministry (Minedu) scale approved by Supreme Decree 277-2025-EF ([Infobae](https://www.infobae.com/peru/2025/12/27/minedu-esta-es-la-nueva-escala-magisterial-con-sueldos-de-hasta-s980196/); [La República](https://larepublica.pe/sociedad/2026/01/05/sueldo-docente-en-2026-minedu-fija-nuevos-montos-para-cpm-y-profesores-contratados-207090)). The raise took effect in January 2026 and lifted the hourly value of the Full Monthly Remuneration (RIM) from S/ 110.02 to S/ 116.69.

A public school teacher's pay depends on their teaching scale, from the first to the eighth, and on their workload. This guide explains how it is calculated and how much a teacher in Peru earns in each case.

How much a teacher in Peru earns by scale

Sources: Infobae and La República, with the scale published by Minedu. The RIM is an hourly amount (S/ 116.69) multiplied by the hours and by the scale percentage: a first-scale teacher with 30 hours receives 30 × S/ 116.69 = S/ 3,500.70. La República rounds some 40-hour amounts differently; we use Infobae's, which match the calculation.

How much a contract teacher in Peru earns

Contract teachers, who are not part of the public career, are paid by reference to the first teaching scale: S/ 3,500.70 for a 30-hour workload, according to La República. The sources reviewed do not report the amount for contract teachers with 40 hours. More than 426,000 teachers benefited from the second stage of the raise, according to Minedu as cited by Infobae.

The 2025 amounts are our calculation using the previous RIM of S/ 110.02 (Infobae). In Congress there is also a November 2025 committee report proposing to raise teacher pay gradually through 2029, with a ceiling of S/ 16,800 on the top scale (Infobae). As of this article we found no evidence it has been approved, so those amounts are not in force.

How much a teacher in Peru earns per year

In addition to 12 monthly payments, teachers under Law 29944 receive bonuses. The 2026 National Holidays bonus was up to S/ 300, under Supreme Decree 128-2026-EF, which explicitly includes the teaching career (El Peruano). The Budget Law also provides a Christmas bonus, regulated in December; for this estimate we use the same S/ 300, which should be confirmed by the year-end decree.

Other payments a teacher in Peru receives

  • A length-of-service allowance at 25 and 30 years, calculated on the RIM for the teacher's scale.
  • Severance compensation on leaving: 100% of monthly pay for each year of official service.
  • Allowances for management or senior roles, extra hours and work in rural, border or priority areas.
  • A bereavement and funeral allowance.
