A newly graduated police officer in Peru, a third-class sub-officer (suboficial de tercera) of the National Police (PNP), earns S/ 2,924.82 a month in consolidated pay, according to Supreme Decree No. 112-2026-EF, published in June 2026 and reported by state news agency [Andina](https://andina.pe/agencia/noticia-estos-seran-los-nuevos-montos-remuneracion-para-miembros-ff-aa-y-pnp-1081008.aspx). A PNP general earns S/ 12,377.18 and a lieutenant general, S/ 12,688.04.

Consolidated pay is the base salary set by the Ministry of Economy and Finance for military and police personnel. Here is the full table, how much it rose from December 2025 and what else police officers receive.

How much a police officer earns in Peru: officers

Sources: Andina (DS 112-2026-EF) and Infobae (DS 292-2025-EF, in force since December 2025). The percentage increase is our calculation: all ranks rose about 8.8%. Amounts are the same for equivalent ranks in the Armed Forces.

How much a police officer earns in Peru: sub-officers

PNP rankConsolidated pay since Jun-2026Since Dec-2025
Senior Sub-officerS/ 3,949.79S/ 3,629.53

A third-class sub-officer therefore receives S/ 237 more a month than in December 2025. That base pay is nearly 2.4 times Peru's minimum wage, which has been S/ 1,230 since October 1, 2026.

Why PNP pay rose in 2026

DS 112-2026-EF is a new phase of the gradual increase in consolidated pay for military and police personnel. It repeals DS 292-2025-EF, which had set the amounts in force since December 2025 as the "third phase" of the raise (Infobae). Funding comes from the Interior and Defense ministries' budgets, with no additional Treasury resources, and the ministry updates the amounts automatically in the AIRHSP payroll system (Andina). Press sources do not agree on the total percentage committed for the whole process, so we do not include it.

What else a police officer receives besides base pay

  • Bonuses for life risk, location (for example, in the VRAEM or border areas) or specialty. Amounts depend on each posting and there is no single official table.
  • Bonuses for Independence Day and Christmas, which in the public sector are set each year by the budget law.
  • Health benefits through Saludpol and the police health system.
  • Deductions: contributions to the Military-Police Pension Fund and health and housing funds, which reduce net pay.

So the pay an officer actually takes home can be higher or lower than consolidated pay. Job sites cite ranges of S/ 2,500 to S/ 3,500 for a newly graduated sub-officer, but those are not official figures.

Annual pay of a Peruvian police officer

Multiplying consolidated pay by 12 months, without bonuses, gives the annual floor for each rank (our calculation with DS 112-2026-EF amounts):

RankMonthlyAnnual (12 months)
Third-class Sub-officerS/ 2,924.82S/ 35,097.84
Senior Sub-officerS/ 3,949.79S/ 47,397.48
Ensign (Alférez)S/ 3,263.36S/ 39,160.32
MajorS/ 4,816.38S/ 57,796.56
ColonelS/ 10,226.56S/ 122,718.72
Lieutenant GeneralS/ 12,688.04S/ 152,256.48

The gap between the lowest and highest rank is more than fourfold. The biggest jump is from commander (S/ 6,332.60) to colonel (S/ 10,226.56): an increase of 61%.

Officers and sub-officers: two different careers

The PNP has two careers. Officers train at the Officers' School and graduate as ensigns (alférez); they can reach general. Sub-officers train at the higher technical schools and graduate as third-class sub-officers; their career goes up to senior sub-officer. That is why an officer's starting pay (S/ 3,263.36) is higher than a sub-officer's (S/ 2,924.82), and a sub-officer's ceiling (S/ 3,949.79) is below a major's.
