A passport in Peru costs PEN 120.90 in 2026 and, since June 1, it is issued without a prior appointment: Migraciones serves applicants on a first-come basis and delivers the document the same day, according to [Peru's National Migration Superintendency](https://www.gob.pe/institucion/migraciones/noticias/1398225-adios-a-las-citas-virtuales-migraciones-iniciara-atencion-de-tramites-de-pasaporte-por-orden-de-llegada-desde-este-lunes-1-de-junio). Payment is made on Págalo.pe with code 01810, at Banco de la Nación or at the offices with Yape or card.

For adults, the electronic passport is valid for 10 years. This guide covers the price, requirements, rules for minors and what to know before going to an office.

The amount and payment methods appear in the official Migraciones notice and in Infobae. The price rose from PEN 98.60 in 2023, according to Andina: a 22.6% increase (our calculation). Minors pay the same amount, with the child's DNI on the receipt.

How to get a passport in Peru without an appointment

Migraciones scrapped online appointments because, according to its head, the system was vulnerable to bots and middlemen hoarding slots and "proved inefficient", according to Infobae. Since June 1, 2026, the process works like this:

  • 1. Pay PEN 120.90 on Págalo.pe (code 01810), at Banco de la Nación or at the office.
  • 2. Go to a Migraciones office with your valid DNI in good condition.
  • 3. Get a ticket on arrival: service is first come, first served, within each office's hours and capacity.
  • 4. Complete biometric capture (photo and fingerprints). No forms, photocopies or printed photos are required.
  • 5. Wait for the passport: you must stay at the office until it is ready, though you may step out during printing. Migraciones says it takes one to two hours.

Older adults, pregnant women and people with children have priority. Those who already had an appointment booked before the change were also served first.

Passport validity in Peru: why it now lasts 10 years

Law 31678 extended the validity of the ordinary electronic passport for those over 18 from five to ten years, according to Andina. Migraciones completed the technical changes in 2023 and the regulation was amended in December that year, according to Gestión. Nothing changed for minors: three years up to age 11 and five years from 12 to 17.

Common mistakes

  • Expired or damaged DNI: Migraciones requires a valid DNI in good condition. If it has expired, renew it at Reniec first.
  • Paying with another DNI: the receipt must be linked to the applicant's DNI; for a minor, to the child's DNI.
  • Bringing photos or forms: not needed. The photo is taken at the office.
  • Not checking the office: since service is first come, first served and subject to daily capacity, arrive early.

Emergency passports and other cases

If you have an urgent trip, Migraciones issues emergency passports, which require proof of travel such as the plane ticket, according to Infobae. The Jorge Chávez airport office issues urgent passports, although in July it was suspended while a fault in Reniec's platform was fixed, which halted issuance nationwide until July 13.

Before going, check Migraciones' official channels to see whether the office is operating normally that day. If you travel around the region, compare with the price of a Mexican passport and a Chilean passport. To plan holidays, see Peru's 2027 public holidays.
