The gap between the 6- and 10-year passports is small, and the 10-year one saves you from repeating the process. Minors cannot get the 10-year passport: their maximum validity is 6 years.
Who gets 50% off the Mexican passport
The Federal Fees Law sets that people over 60 and people with a certified disability pay half. Temporary farm workers going to Canada under government agreements also pay 50%, but only for passports valid up to 6 years.

An emergency passport, when you need it urgently, carries a 30% surcharge on the ordinary fee, according to the law. In Mexico, that puts the 3-year passport at about MXN 2,334, the 6-year at MXN 3,172 and the 10-year at MXN 5,564 (our calculation).
