The 2026 releases that made the ranking

Two films from this year are already in the top 25: Spider-Man: Brand New Day, third, and The Odyssey, 11th with US$1,780 million. As they are still showing in some countries, their figures can still rise. From last year there are Ne Zha 2, Zootopia 2 and Avatar: Fire and Ash.

The US$2 billion club

Only eight films have passed US$2 billion, and 66 exceed US$1 billion. The ranking is recent: of the top 25, 12 are from this decade and 11 from the previous one. From before 2009 only one remains, Titanic, from 1997.

The weight of audiences outside the United States

On average, the 25 films took 65% of their box office outside the United States and Canada. The extreme case is Ne Zha 2, the Chinese animation: 99% came from outside the North American market, almost all of it from its own country. At the other end, Black Panther made more than half in the United States.

How to read this ranking

  • It is not adjusted for inflation. A ticket in 1997 cost far less than one in 2026, so older films are at a disadvantage. Adjusted, classics such as Gone with the Wind would climb many places.
  • It measures money, not viewers. Premium screens and 3D inflate the gross of recent films.
  • It includes re-releases. Several figures add what was taken when the film returned to cinemas years later.
  • It moves. Films still showing change position from one week to the next; this is the picture as of 12 October 2026.

At home, success is measured differently: see the films that lasted longest in Netflix's Top 10 in Chile and how much streaming platforms cost.
