November 2026 brings two long weekends in Argentina: Saturday the 7th to Monday the 9th, for the national holiday the government declared for Pope Leo XIV's visit, and Saturday the 21st to Monday the 23rd, for National Sovereignty Day. In addition, Tuesday the 10th is a holiday in the City of Buenos Aires and Córdoba, and Wednesday the 11th in Buenos Aires province, under decree 1103/2026 cited by La Nación and El Destape.
It is the first papal visit to Argentina in 39 years: the last was John Paul II, in April 1987. This guide sums up all the November and December 2026 holidays, who each one applies to and how they are paid if you work.
Argentina's November 2026 holiday calendar
| Date | Type | Scope | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday, November 9 | National holiday | Whole country | Pope Leo XIV's visit (decree 1103/2026) |
| Tuesday, November 10 | Regional holiday | City of Buenos Aires and Córdoba province | Pope's Mass in Córdoba and vigil in Buenos Aires |
| Wednesday, November 11 | Regional holiday | Buenos Aires province | Pope's Mass at the Basilica of Luján |
| Monday, November 23 | Movable national holiday | Whole country | National Sovereignty Day (moved from Friday the 20th) |
Sources: La Nación, El Destape and the official holiday calendar. Sovereignty Day commemorates the Battle of Vuelta de Obligado on November 20, 1845. Because it is a movable holiday and falls on a Friday in 2026, it moves to the following Monday.
Who gets the days off for the pope's visit
- Monday the 9th: national holiday for the whole country, with a long weekend from Saturday the 7th.
- Tuesday the 10th: only in the City of Buenos Aires and Córdoba. In the Buenos Aires district of Luján it is a non-working day for public administration and Banco Provincia, and optional for other activities.
- Wednesday the 11th: only in Buenos Aires province.
- Rule: according to El Destape, what counts is the place of work, not where you live. Someone who lives in the City and works in Greater Buenos Aires gets Wednesday the 11th off; in the reverse case, Tuesday the 10th.
- Transport: the decree requires 75% of public transport services to run to make it easier to move between jurisdictions.

The tour begins in Uruguay (November 6-8) and ends in Peru (11-17), where the government also set non-working days (see Peru's non-working days for the pope's visit). The mayor of Luján expects more than a million people at the Mass on Wednesday the 11th.
The visit is going ahead despite the surgery the pope had on October 13 at Rome's Gemelli Hospital, where the lower lobe of his right lung was removed because of an adenocarcinoma detected in routine checks. He was discharged on October 17 and his surgeon ruled out clinical reasons to cancel the trip, according to Diario de Cuyo. Leo XIV, born in Chicago in 1955 and elected in May 2025, is the first American pope and also holds Peruvian citizenship.
