The deadline to link mobile lines ending in 4 to the owner's CURP (Mexico's personal ID code) expired on Thursday, October 15, 2026, and carriers have 72 hours to suspend lines that were not registered. Lines ending in 5 have until October 31. The calendar, staggered by the last digit of the number, was set by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (CRT) after it extended the original deadline of June 30. A suspended line is not lost: it is reactivated once registration is completed.

This is the calendar released by the CRT and reported by Infobae and El Informador. The sources reviewed agree on the October dates. One shows a different date for digit 0 and another gives December 30 as the final date; we use December 31, as most sources do.

What happens if you did not register your line

  • Suspension within 72 hours: once the deadline passes, the carrier has up to 72 hours to suspend the line. For digit 4, that falls between October 16 and 18.
  • Text message warning: carriers must warn by SMS before suspending.
  • What keeps working: emergency calls, earthquake and government alerts, and contact with your carrier to complete the process.
  • What stops working: regular calls, text messages and mobile data.
  • You keep your number: the suspension is temporary and the line is reactivated once registration is complete, the CRT told El Imparcial.

How to register your phone with your CURP

The process is done with your phone company, not at government offices. It is free. These are the requirements announced by the authorities, according to Infobae:

RequirementDetails
Phone numberThe line you are linking
CURPOf the line's owner
Valid official IDVoter card or passport
Photos of the documentUploaded on the platform
Liveness checkIdentity verification using the phone's camera
  • Go to your carrier's official website (Telcel, AT&T, Movistar, Bait or another) or visit an authorised service centre.
  • Enter your number and your CURP.
  • Upload your ID and complete the liveness check.
  • Keep the confirmation the carrier gives you.

The authorities warned that registration is free and does not ask for fingerprints or iris scans. Ignore links received through social media, email or SMS asking for personal data: they may be scams.

How many lines are still unregistered

The process began on January 9, 2026. By June 25, 63 million lines had been linked, 39.1% of the estimated total, according to Infobae. In late July, the head of the Digital Transformation Agency spoke of about 68 million. The CRT says 85% of the country's 158 million mobile lines were anonymous before the registry.

For digit 0, the CRT estimated that 2.5 million lines would be suspended, although 2.6 million could be reactivated, El CEO reported. We found no official suspension figure for digit 4.

How to reactivate a suspended line

Simply complete the same registration with your carrier. Reactivation is free and you keep your number. If the phone has no data, you can use wifi to access the platform or go to a service centre. For more about your phone, see what NFC on a phone is.

When lines with each final digit can be suspended

7November 30December 1 to 3
8December 15December 16 to 18
9December 31January 1 to 3, 2027

The window is our own calculation: 72 hours from the start of the day after the deadline, as the sources consulted explained it. Each carrier can suspend at any point within that period.

How to avoid registration scams

  • Only register on your carrier's official website or at its service centres.
  • Do not pay: registration is free.
  • Do not reply to messages asking for your CURP or photos of your ID via WhatsApp, social media or email.
  • Be wary of shortened links or pages that imitate the carrier.
  • If in doubt, call the customer service number on your bill or the official website.

Why the registry was created

The CRT says the vast majority of the country's mobile lines were anonymous. The authorities have justified the registry by the need to identify line owners, especially lines used in crimes such as extortion. Registration is mandatory for prepaid and new lines.
