Google launched its universal shopping cart in the United States: a single cart where you can save products from different stores while searching on Google or chatting with Gemini. From that cart you can pay with Google Pay or move the products to each store's own cart, according to Marketing4eCommerce on October 15. Google had presented it in May at its annual developer conference.
What Google's universal cart is
Until now, buying from several online stores meant filling several separate carts. The universal cart brings everything together: a bag spotted in Search's AI Mode and sneakers found in the Gemini app can be saved together to complete the purchase later.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Where it works | Google Search's AI Mode and the Gemini app |
| Stores | Nike, Sephora, Target, Ulta Beauty, Walmart, Wayfair and many Shopify stores |
| Payment | With Google Pay from the cart or on each store's website |
| Benefits | Google Wallet suggests the best payment method and flags coupons and points |
| Alerts | Notifications when the price drops or stock returns |
| Technology | Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) |
| Availability | United States |

How Google's cart works, step by step
- Search for a product in Search's AI Mode or ask Gemini.
- Add it to the universal cart, even from different stores.
- Turn on alerts to know if the price drops or it is back in stock.
- Pay with Google Pay in a few taps or move the items to the store's cart.
- Google Wallet suggests the payment method with the most benefits.
Why it matters: search becomes a store
The universal cart is another piece in the race for so-called AI commerce: assistants that not only recommend products but let you buy them without leaving the conversation. For stores, it means part of the buying process happens outside their website. For Google, it means Search is no longer just the entry point but also the checkout counter.
| For whom | What changes |
|---|---|
| Shoppers | One cart for several stores and price alerts |
| Stores | More sales from Google, but less control over the shopping experience |
| More presence in the final purchase, not just in search |

Will the universal cart reach Chile?
For now, Google has not announced it for other countries. Google's shopping tools usually debut in the US and expand later, but there is no date. In Chile, if you plan to take advantage of year-end deals, see how to spot a real deal on Black Friday 2026.
