From Thursday, October 22, 2026, 93- and 97-octane gasoline in Chile rises CLP 41.3 per liter and diesel CLP 91.5, according to the estimated price report published on Wednesday the 21st by the state oil company ENAP ([ENAP](https://www.enap.cl/informacion-comercial/informe-semanal-de-precios)). It is the fifth consecutive fuel price increase: since late July, gasoline has risen CLP 183.4 per liter and diesel CLP 401.4, according to Emol. With this adjustment, diesel reaches its highest price on record, according to calculations by Pauta.
The increase comes with Brent crude above US$ 110 a barrel and a warning from truck drivers, who do not rule out a strike. Here are the figures, the sequence of increases and what comes next.
How much fuel prices rise in Chile from October 22
| Fuel | Change per liter from October 22 |
|---|---|
| 93-octane gasoline | +CLP 41.3 |
| 97-octane gasoline | +CLP 41.3 |
| Diesel | +CLP 91.5 |
| Kerosene (paraffin) | +CLP 24.8 |
| Vehicle LPG | +CLP 13.9 |

The company states in the same document that it does not set or regulate retail prices: it estimates the change from import prices on the U.S. Gulf Coast, the cost of shipping fuel to Chile and the rules of MEPCO and of the Oil Price Stabilization Fund (FEPP), which applies to kerosene. Each distributor and gas station sets its own final price.
What gasoline costs in Santiago after the increase
ENAP does not publish retail prices, but Pauta estimated the averages for the Santiago Metropolitan Region after the adjustment. They are reference values: each pump may differ by a few pesos.
| Fuel | Estimated average in the Santiago region (10-22-2026) | Reference after the March 2026 increase |
|---|---|---|
| 93-octane gasoline | CLP 1,527 per liter | about CLP 1,541 |
| 95-octane gasoline | CLP 1,554 per liter | n/a |
| 97-octane gasoline | CLP 1,620 per liter | n/a |
| Diesel | CLP 1,558 per liter | CLP 1,512 |

"n/a": not available in that source. 93-octane gasoline is about CLP 14 below the level it reached after the March price shock, when it rose CLP 372.2 in a single week, while diesel already exceeds it by about CLP 46. La Tercera describes this week's gasoline increase as the second largest since the government adjusted MEPCO in March, behind only that episode.

The five fuel price increases in Chile since July
Gasoline and diesel prices have changed every three weeks since the 2023 MEPCO reform (Law 21,537), according to the Ministry of Finance. That is why the five increases in this streak fall on five Thursdays:
| From Thursday | Gasoline (per liter) | Diesel (per liter) |
|---|---|---|
| July 30 | +CLP 32.9 | +CLP 28.5 |
| August 20 | +CLP 34.8 | +CLP 97.4 |
| September 10 | +CLP 35.0 | +CLP 89.0 |
| October 1 | +CLP 39.4 | +CLP 95.0 |
| October 22 | +CLP 41.3 | +CLP 91.5 |
| Cumulative total | +CLP 183.4 | +CLP 401.4 |
Source: Emol tally of ENAP's weekly reports; the sum matches the totals published by Emol and Pauta. Emol lists the report dates (Wednesdays); the changes take effect the following Thursday. In the July 29 report, the gasoline figure refers to 93-octane. Kerosene, which follows a different mechanism, is up CLP 279 over the same period and vehicle LPG CLP 52.4.
Why prices are rising: oil and MEPCO
The main cause is the international price of crude. On Thursday the 22nd, Brent, Chile's benchmark, was up 2.73% at US$ 111.74 a barrel and touched US$ 112.60 on fears of a new escalation in the Middle East, according to La Tercera. The paper notes that Chile imports more than 95% of the oil it consumes, and a strong dollar makes those purchases even more expensive (see the dollar at its 2026 high).
The second factor is how MEPCO, the mechanism that smooths price swings through changes in the fuel excise tax, works today. In March the government changed its parameters because of the fiscal situation, and since then the system passes on almost all of the international increase, according to La Tercera. Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz said the gasoline increase is the "minimum legally possible" and that "we are obliged by law to around CLP 40", and estimated the cost of containing the increases of the past three weeks at about US$ 300 million (Diario Financiero). For diesel, he added, the state keeps a subsidy of about CLP 200 per liter. We explain the system in what MEPCO is and how it works.

What the increase means for drivers
| Example | Extra cost with the October 22 increase | Extra cost since July |
|---|---|---|
| 45-liter gasoline tank | CLP 1,859 | CLP 8,253 |
| 60-liter diesel tank | CLP 5,490 | CLP 24,084 |
| Truck filling 400 liters of diesel | CLP 36,600 | CLP 160,560 |
Our calculation: liters multiplied by ENAP's changes this week and by the cumulative totals since July. It excludes taxes and each station's margins. Fuel weighs on the CPI: the Central Bank sets its rate on October 27 with 12-month inflation at 4.1% (see what traders expect).
Truck drivers' groups called a national consultation, and their leader, Juan Araya, warned that "a strike is never ruled out", according to The Clinic. Diario Financiero reported that the trucking federation called the increases "unsustainable".
When prices change again
The next gasoline and diesel adjustment should take effect on Thursday, November 12, three weeks after the current one. Analysts quoted by Emol expect further upward pressure, depending on oil and the exchange rate. ENAP publishes its report every Wednesday. To compare with the region, see gasoline prices in Latin America; our sister outlet La Tendencia anticipated the increase in this story.
