Chile has reached the podium at 8 editions. By number, the best was Melbourne 1956, with four medals; by quality, Athens 2004, with the first two golds. There are also two long droughts: 32 years between Melbourne 1956 and Seoul 1988, and 16 between Beijing 2008 and Paris 2024.
The three golds
- Nicolás Massú and Fernando González, tennis doubles, Athens 2004. Chile's first gold medal in its Olympic history.
- Nicolás Massú, tennis singles, Athens 2004. He won it the day after the doubles gold.
- Francisca Crovetto, skeet, Paris 2024. The first Olympic gold by a Chilean woman.
The athletes with more than one medal
Only three. Fernando González has three and is the only Chilean with one of each colour: gold in doubles and bronze in singles at Athens 2004, and silver in singles at Beijing 2008. Nicolás Massú has the two golds from Athens. And Óscar Cristi won two silvers in equestrian at Helsinki 1952, individual and team.
In all, 32 Chilean athletes have received an Olympic medal, because two of the 15 belong to large teams: the team show jumping medal of 1952 and the bronze of the football team at Sydney 2000, a squad that included Iván Zamorano, Nelson Tapia and David Pizarro.
Women on the medal table
Two of the 15 medals were won by women. Marlene Ahrens took silver in the javelin throw at Melbourne 1956 and for 68 years was Chile's only female Olympic medallist, until Francisca Crovetto's gold in 2024.
How to read this medal table
- One medal is counted per event. The tennis doubles gold is one medal, even though two players received it; the same goes for football and team equestrian.
- Olympic Games only. The Paralympic Games and the Pan American Games are not included; they have their own medal tables.
- Next stop: Los Angeles 2028.
